The Senate Chamber on Tuesday plenary upheld the point of order raised by Senate Whip, Senator Ali Ndume, rejecting the total arrangements of the Senate Chamber.
Senator Ndume who said the senate chamber had become more like a conference room than a senate chamber also pointed out several other concerns about the renovated chamber.
He observed that the clock in the chamber was hardly noticeable while also explaining that the chamber’s acoustics were poorly done as the room kept echoing.
The long-time serving Senator also highlighted the absence of an electronic voting system in the newly renovated chamber while stating that the Senate needs to correct the order of seating and change so many other things.
The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio while upholding the point of order raised by Senator Ndume also stated that the progress on the new seating arrangements is almost complete while also explaining that work on the building is still in progress.
Senator Akpabio also pointed out that the renovation project is a project embarked upon by the 9th Assembly and not the current 10th Assembly.
In his speech, the Senate President also said that the National Assembly is a tenant of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) and also noted that their is a need for the National Assembly to own its building and be more autonomous.
