The Governor of Adamawa State, Umaru Fintiri, has approved the payment of a ₦70,000 national minimum wage to employees on the state and local government payroll.
This announcement was made by the State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Emmanuel Fashe, following a closed-door meeting with the governor on Tuesday.
State government workers will start receiving their adjusted salaries from August 2024, while local government workers will see the increase beginning in September.
Fashe noted that the new wage structure will follow the consequential adjustment table from 2019, pending the release of a new table from the National Salaries, Wages, and Income Commission.
“Whatever the worker was getting as present national minimum wage of N32,000 as it applies to Adamawa State, that same will be applied in terms of percentages in implementation of the new minimum wage, ” he said.
He added that Governor Fintiri is committed to the welfare of workers, hence the implementation of the new minimum wage even before the release of the table from the national salaries, wages and income commission.
