KEDCO Faces N6 Billion Loss from 12-Day Power Outage

The Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) has reported a staggering loss of about N6 billion following a recent 12-day power outage that disrupted business and social activities across its service areas in Kano, Jigawa, and Katsina states.

Sani Bala Sani, KEDCO’s Head of Corporate Communications, revealed that the outage was worsened by the vandalism of 70 transformers.

The blackout stemmed from a tripping incident on a 330kV transmission line, disconnecting several states in the northwestern and northeastern regions from the national grid.

To mitigate the impact, KEDCO implemented load shedding, focusing on industrial and commercial feeders to bolster economic growth, especially in Kano, known as an industrial hub.

Power was eventually restored after the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) worked tirelessly to re-establish grid connectivity, gradually restoring electricity supply across northern communities.
