Port Harcourt Refinery Begins Oil Production After Years Of Inactivity

The Port Harcourt Refinery has officially resumed operations following an extensive renovation and modernization process that began in 2021.

This refurbishment was part of a significant $1.5 billion contract awarded by the Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government to restore the refinery’s capacity.

Sunday Dare, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communications, shared the news on X , stating that the refinery now has two operational wings.

The first, the Old Refinery, has started production with an installed capacity of 60,000 barrels of crude oil per day.

Additionally, he highlighted that about 200 trucks are expected to be loaded with refined products daily from the refinery.

“The Port Harcourt Refinery has two Wings. The Old Refinery comes on stream today with an installed production capacity of 60, 000 barrels per day of crude oil.

“About 200 trucks are expected to load products daily from the refinery Renewing the Hopes of Nigeria” he said.
