President Tinubu Journeys To Accra Ahead Of Mahama’s Inauguration

President Bola Tinubu is set to depart Abuja Today, Monday January 6, for Accra, Ghana’s capital, to attend the inauguration of President-elect John Dramani Mahama on January 7.

The announcement was made by Bayo Onanuga, the presidential spokesman, who confirmed that Tinubu’s trip was at the invitation of the President-elect.

Mahama, who previously served as the 12th president of Ghana from 2011 to 2017, was reelected in December 2024.

He will succeed President Nana Akuffo-Addo, who has been in office since 2017 and will complete his term in 2025.

The statement further revealed that Mahama had visited President Tinubu in December 2024, shortly after his electoral victory, to seek Nigeria’s support.

“Mahama and President Tinubu have a longstanding personal relationship, just like Nigeria and Ghana maintain a longstanding bilateral relationship,” the statement noted.

As Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, President Tinubu will join other African leaders for the inauguration ceremony.

He will be accompanied on the trip by Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, along with other senior government officials.
