PDP Gears Up For 2027 Election Fight

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has set its sights on expanding its influence across Nigeria, with a firm commitment to securing more governorship positions and reclaiming power at the national level in the 2027 elections.

This ambitious plan was outlined by the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) during a visit to Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, at his country home in Sampou, Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area on Sunday.

Speaking on behalf of the NWC, the party’s National Treasurer, Alhaji Ahmed Yayare, highlighted widespread dissatisfaction and economic hardship as key factors driving PDP’s resurgence.

“The disenchantment across the country is palpable,” Yayare said. “PDP will produce more governors in 2027 because Nigerians are yearning for change. If we do not take over the leadership of the country, it could mark the end of democracy in Nigeria.”

Yayare emphasized that the PDP remains the only credible opposition with the capability to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

“Nothing stops PDP from producing the president and vice president in 2027. The cry of hunger and poverty is too much in the land. The 36 states of Nigeria are yearning for PDP’s return.

“The APC cannot even campaign without facing public outrage. Nigeria is in your hands – we need your support to salvage this country,” he added.

The NWC also revealed plans to visit PDP-governed states, urging party governors to strengthen ties and align their strategies ahead of the upcoming general election.

The visit, however, was not limited to political discussions as it also carried a message of condolence for the loss of former Deputy Inspector General of Police, Moses Jituboh, and Bayelsa State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs. Elizabeth Bidei.

PDP National Secretary, Ude Okoye, reaffirmed the NWC’s commitment to reshaping the party and offering Nigerians a viable alternative leadership.

“We are ready to strengthen the PDP and demonstrate that there is a better option for Nigerians,” Okoye said. “Respect for the party and its governors will be central to our strategy moving forward.”

He commended Diri’s leadership and development efforts, describing him as a model for progressive governance.

In his response, Governor Douye Diri stressed the importance of unity among PDP governors, urging them to prioritize collective progress over personal interests.

“We need to work closely together and do what is right without fear or favour,” Diri stated. “Consensus-building should always be our first option for resolving issues. Running to the courts at every disagreement weakens us. If PDP crumbles under our watch, posterity will not forgive us.”

Diri reaffirmed his loyalty to the PDP and warned against internal sabotage.

“If anyone feels bigger than the party, they are free to leave. PDP made most of us—we cannot pretend to be PDP by day and something else by night. We must cleanse our house from within,” he cautioned.

Supporting the idea of a broader coalition to challenge APC dominance, Diri emphasized that the PDP has a pivotal role in forming a “mega party” that can lead Nigeria out of its current struggles.

“Our focus should be on strengthening the PDP as a beacon of hope for Nigeria,” Diri concluded. “Together, we can restore this nation.”
