The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has launched a new initiative that will allow candidates to retake specific subjects of the West African Senior Secondary Examinations (WASSCE) as early as January and February 2025. This new scheme, named “WASSCE PC1,” offers students the opportunity to resit exams they may have failed or missed, avoiding a full academic year delay.
John Kapi, the Head of Public Affairs at WAEC, explained in a statement that students who need to retake one or more subjects can register online or at WAEC-accredited internet cafés until January 8, 2025.
The exams are scheduled to take place between January 24 and February 15, 2025.
“Students who access their results now and realise they need to resit one or two papers have until 8th January to register online through our website or at WAEC-accredited internet cafés,” Kapi stated.
The initiative is also open to candidates whose results have been canceled, provided they have not been banned for examination malpractices.
Kapi emphasized that this approach aims to enhance efficiency and accessibility for all eligible participants.
“This approach ensures efficiency and accessibility for participants,” he said, encouraging students to take advantage of the opportunity to avoid academic setbacks.
The WAEC spokesman urged eligible candidates to make the most of the registration period and register promptly. “Students can now avoid a year-long academic setback, thanks to this initiative,” he concluded.
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) is a regional examination body established by law in 1952. It conducts examinations in English-speaking West African countries, including Nigeria, Ghana, Sierra Leone, The Gambia, and Liberia.
