The Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, Dr. Olusola Odumosu, has urged 137 graduating officers to uphold the highest standards of professionalism and discipline as they embark on their security assignments.
He made the call during the Passing Out Parade of Batch B Basic Arms Training at the FCT Command Headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday.
Addressing the officers, Dr. Odumosu stressed the importance of adhering to the rules of engagement while discharging their duties.
He emphasized the need for the personnel to remain vigilant, disciplined, and focused as they take on the responsibility of safeguarding lives, property, and critical national infrastructure within the FCT.
“As you are being deployed today to your various places of assignment, remember not to leave your good orientation behind and always give your best, work smart, and think smart all the time,” he advised.
The Commandant further reminded the officers: “In the discharge of your legitimate duties, always remember the rules of engagement, be professional in handling your riffles, protect yourself, protect your rifles, protect lives and property.”
Dr. Odumosu reassured the officers that their rigorous training had equipped them to confront security challenges with competence and determination.
He also underscored the importance of their role in assisting the Command’s efforts to combat crimes such as vandalism, illegal mining, and theft of public infrastructure.
“To whom much is given, much is expected,” Odumosu stated, emphasizing the high expectations placed on the newly trained officers.
The Commandant also commended the instructors for their dedication in preparing the officers for their duties, acknowledging their expertise in enhancing the officers’ skills and instilling necessary values.
He expressed gratitude to the NSCDC Commandant General, Dr. Ahmed Audi, and the Minister of the FCT, Barrister Nyesom Wike, for their support and leadership, which have strengthened the Command’s capacity to meet the increasing security demands.
In closing, Dr. Odumosu reassured the public of the NSCDC’s commitment to its mandate. “We will not relent in our efforts to ensure safety and security across the FCT,” he affirmed.
The 137 officers are part of the FCT Command’s broader initiative to enhance its operational capabilities. Since October 2024, a total of 272 officers have undergone retraining under the Batch A and B programs.
