Real Madrid To Face Manchester City In Champions League Play-Offs

The reigning Champions League holders, Real Madrid, will meet 2023 winners Manchester City in the standout tie of the play-off round following Friday’s draw.

This marks the fourth consecutive year the two teams will face each other in a knockout tie, with Real Madrid emerging victorious in a dramatic penalty shootout in last season’s quarter-finals.

Manchester City, who narrowly advanced after finishing 22nd in the league phase of the competition’s new format, will host the first leg before traveling to Spain for the return fixture.

Elsewhere, Celtic will take on six-time European champions Bayern Munich after the Scottish champions reached the knockout stage for the first time in 12 years.

Paris Saint-Germain will square off against surprise package Brest in an all-French encounter, while Juventus will face PSV Eindhoven and Feyenoord will battle AC Milan in two ties featuring former Champions League winners.

Atalanta, last season’s Europa League winners, will meet Club Brugge after finishing just outside the top eight in the league phase. Sporting CP has been drawn against Borussia Dortmund, while Monaco will face Benfica in a rematch after losing to the Portuguese side during the group stage.

The play-off ties will take place next month, with the eight winners advancing to the last 16, joining the eight highest-placed teams from the league phase.

Already secured in the last 16 are Liverpool, Barcelona, Arsenal, Inter Milan, Atletico Madrid, Bayer Leverkusen, Lille, and Aston Villa.
