Just In: President Tinubu Declares State Of Emergency In Rivers State

President Bola Tinubu has declared state of emergency in Rivers State due to the ongoing political turmoil.

In a nationwide broadcast on Tuesday, Tinubu announced the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, and all members of the state House of Assembly for a period of six months.

According to Section 305 of the 1999 Constitution, a state of emergency is defined as “a situation of national danger or disaster in which a government suspends normal constitutional procedures to regain control.”

This legal framework allows the President to take immediate action to restore public order and safety.

The declaration grants the President the authority to implement any necessary regulations to secure the region during this period of unrest.

Further developments on the situation are expected to follow.
