The Nigerian Defence Headquarters has received 20 new Army Personnel Carriers to strengthen its formations and enhance its capability in fighting against the current security challenges in the country.
Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa received the vehicles and its accompanying documents from the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence, Dr Ibrahim Abubakar Kana who was representing the Minister of Defence, Alhaji Mohammed Badaru Abubakar.
Speaking during the handover, Dr Kana emphasized the importance of bolstering the defense capabilities of the armed forces so as to effectively address the many security challenges facing the nation.
He stated, “This handover marks a significant milestone in our ongoing efforts to strengthen the operational readiness of our Armed Forces. These Armored Personnel Carriers will provide our troops with enhanced protection and mobility, enabling them to carry out their duties more effectively in safeguarding our nation’s sovereignty.”
Dr Ibrahim Abubakar Kana while highlighting the economic benefits noted that the APCs were manufactured locally, signaling a cost-saving measure for the nation, while also generating employment opportunities and reducing dependence on foreign currency.
The Director of Defence Information, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, who was also at the presentation ceremony said that the Armored Personnel Carriers represent a significant advancement, boasting upgraded weaponry and communication systems capable of detecting and engaging adversaries from afar, thereby enhancing military effectiveness.
While delivering his remarks, the Chief of Defence Staff commended the minister and also stated the DHQ’s commitment to equipping its troops.
He noted the importance of the personnel carriers in aiding the armed forces to respond swiftly and decisively to Security threats.
“The acquisition of these Armored Personnel Carriers underscores our commitment to equipping our troops with the necessary resources to confront evolving security challenges. I commend the Ministry of Defence for its unwavering support and dedication to strengthening our national defense capabilities”, he said.
