Enugu State Workers To Receive Payment Of 8 Months Salary Arrears

The payment of eight-month salary arrears of over N467 million, which were owed to the academic, non-academic, and casual personnel of the Enugu State College of Education, Technical, ESCET, Enugu, before his administration, has been approved by Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State.

The permission is broken down into three categories: part-time lecturers’ salary arrears of N69.2 million, casual staff salary arrears of N13.8 million, and the eight-month salary arrears of 299 academic and non-academic workers of ESCET, valued at N384 million. The entire amount was N467,061,600.

The administration claims that this is consistent with Governor Mbah’s pledge to improve the state’s educational system.

Recall that the education sector received N158.78 billion, or 33% of the state budget for 2024, from the Mbah Administration. This is the highest both in terms of per capita and percentage of total budget sum in the country as well as higher than UNESCO’s recommended benchmark of 15 per cent – 20 per cent of total annual budget.
