The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has revoked the lands of several prominent figures, including former President Muhammadu Buhari, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, and Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume, due to non-payment of Certificate of Occupancy fees.
The revocation also affects 759 other individuals and organizations located in Maitama II, Abuja. The FCT Administration disclosed this action in a publication, which Lere Olayinka, the Special Adviser to the FCT Minister, shared with Channels Television.
In addition to the revocations, the minister issued a separate notice warning other prominent figures, including Minority Leader of the House of Representatives Kingsley Chinda, former Presidents of the Senate Iyorchia Ayu and Ameh Ebute, and Senate Chief Whip Tahir Monguno, along with 610 others.
They have been given two weeks to pay the outstanding fees for their Certificates of Occupancy, or face similar land revocations.
This latest action follows earlier pleas by the FCT Minister to residents, particularly those in hybrid areas of the capital, to settle their outstanding fees or risk losing their land.
