The Ondo State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, on Sunday said it will start prosecuting motorists engaged in overloading across the state.
The warning came when the FRSC State Sector Commander, Mr Ezekiel SonAllah was addressing newsmen after an accident which claimed one life and injured eight others on Saturday along Owo-Akure expressway.
The accident occurred at about 4:00pm at Amurin Junction, along Owo/Akure Expressway in Owo Local Government Area of the state.
SonAllah explained that a Toyota Hiace with nine passengers on board, was involved in the accident which was caused by a burst tyre as a result of overloading that claimed the life of one person on the spot.
The victims where taken to the Federal Medical Centre, Owo, for treatment while the vehicle and its goods had been handed over to Uso Police Station.
The FRSC Boss warned that any driver caught with an overloaded vehicle would face severe punishment.
“As a passenger, if you know that the vehicle is over loaded and you value your live, you don’t need to enter such vehicle,” he added.
