Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State has expressed his frustration with the economic policies of the Federal Government, saying they are causing severe hardship for Nigerians. Speaking at a meeting of the National Reconciliation Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with governors from the North East and other key stakeholders in Bauchi, Fintiri declared that Nigeria is “bleeding” due to the state of the nation’s economy.
“We are suffering, there is too much anger, and the economic policy is not working. That is why we always call on the Federal Government to reconsider some of these economic policies that are only putting hardship on Nigerians,” Fintiri said.
He emphasized the responsibility of those in power to govern with integrity, stating that holding a position of authority is a privilege given by God.
“The country belongs to us. It does not belong to the World Bank, IMF, or the international community,” he added, urging the Federal Government to focus on policies that alleviate, rather than exacerbate, the pain being felt by citizens.
In addition to his economic concerns, Fintiri’s remarks also underscored the need for leadership based on trust and responsibility. “We must govern based on trust and responsibility,” he stated.
During the same meeting, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, Chairman of the National Reconciliation Committee, acknowledged the reasons behind the PDP’s loss in the last election.
He identified internal disunity as a key factor, expressing the committee’s commitment to resolving these issues moving forward. “We are here to interact with our leadership and membership of our great party so that we can discuss where we are falling short of what we were supposed to do, which led to the outcome we witnessed,” Oyinlola said.
