Sports Minister John Enoh has confirmed that while the Confederation of African Football (CAF) urged the team to proceed with their Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Libya, he prioritized the players’ safety.
The Super Eagles were left stranded at Libya’s Al Abraq Airport for over 15 hours, causing widespread outrage.
Enoh stated on Twitter, “This morning, I was on a conference call with CAF President and Secretary General.
“While their concern is about the match, my focus is on the safety of the team and their return.”
Team captain William Troost-Ekong condemned both the Libyan government and CAF for the team’s ordeal.
