President Tinubu Blames Corruption, Instability On Poor Governance

President Bola Tinubu has warned that the absence of good governance can lead to widespread corruption, political instability economic disparity, and social unrest.
President Tinubu stated this in Abuja during his opening remarks on the National Discourse on Nigeria’s Security Challenges and Good Governance at the Local Government Level organized by the parliament.
The President who was represented at the event by the Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru explained that this factor not only undermines human security by depriving individuals of their basic needs but also poses a significant threat to national security by fostering conditions conducive to conflict and extremism.
On his part, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas who was represented by his deputy, Benjamin Kalu decried the challenges of the third tier of government and assured the House’s commitment to making the local government administration function optimally according to their mandate.
In this regard, Abbas urged the 36 State Governors to prioritize the development of Nigeria and support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in his quest to grant full autonomy to the local government areas across the country.
Kalu in his view noted that there are wide gaps in service delivery and the people in the rural communities suffering due to the apparent failure of the local government system to meet up with its constitutional mandate.
Other top government functionaries while at the event underscored the indispensable link between security and development. Stressing that local government is the closest government to the people as it plays pivotal roles in implementing policies that effectively tackle security challenges and foster good governance.
The theme for the National Discourse is Nigeria’s Security Challenges and Good Governance at the Local Government Level.
