President Bola Tinubu has approved the implementation of free nationwide train services from December 20, 2024, to January 5, 2025, as part of the government’s efforts to ease transportation during the Christmas period.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris, following the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting chaired by the President on Monday.
In addition to the transportation initiative, Idris revealed that the Federal Government has renamed the University of Abuja to Yakubu Gowon University in honor of Nigeria’s former military leader.
The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, also provided an update on the 2025 budget, stating that discussions had been held to ensure the Appropriation Bill would foster greater private sector involvement in the national economy.
Idris confirmed that the FEC meeting held on Monday was the final one for 2024, with the council going into recess from December 18 until January 6, 2025.
