President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has unveiled the Renewed Hope Labour Employment and Empowerment Programme (LEEP), aimed at generating 2.5 million jobs for Nigerians both directly and indirectly.
He made the announcement during his 64th Independence Day speech on Tuesday.
“In addition, later this month, we shall launch The Renewed Hope Labour Employment and Empowerment Programme (LEEP),“ Tinubu said.
According to him the initiative set to launch in November 2024, LEEP is designed to be a comprehensive initiative by the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, focusing on job creation while ensuring the welfare and safety of workers nationwide.
“It is conceived as a comprehensive suite of interventions at job creation by the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment that is aimed at facilitating the creation of 2.5 million jobs, directly and indirectly, on an annual incremental basis whilst simultaneously ensuring the welfare and safety of workers across the country”, he said.
In addition, Tinubu announced a national 30-day Youth Conference to tackle economic challenges, emphasizing the importance of youth participation in shaping recommendations for his administration.
He encouraged Nigerians to remain hopeful, stating that better days lie ahead for the country.
