US President Donald Trump took decisive action on Tuesday, firing four senior government officials appointed by his predecessor, President Joe Biden, and warning that many more dismissals were on the horizon.
In his first post on Truth Social since his inauguration, Trump revealed plans to remove “over a thousand Presidential Appointees” from the previous administration who were not aligned with his vision to “Make America Great Again.”
“My Presidential Personnel Office is actively in the process of identifying and removing over a thousand Presidential Appointees from the previous Administration, who are not aligned with our vision to Make America Great Again,” Trump wrote in the post.
He named four individuals who were immediately dismissed: Jose Andres from the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness and Nutrition, Mark Milley from the National Infrastructure Advisory Council, Brian Hook from the Wilson Center for Scholars, and Keisha Lance Bottoms from the President’s Export Council.
“Let this serve as Official Notice of Dismissal for these 4 individuals, with many more, coming soon,” the post continued, ending with Trump’s signature phrase from his TV show The Apprentice: “YOU’RE FIRED!”
The announcement has left many US government institutions preparing for further changes, with speculation that Trump may follow through on his campaign promises to cut down on the civil service and increase government efficiency, including the possibility of shuttering entire departments.
