The leadership of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) has accused the Federal Government of targeting its leaders, with a threat of a nationwide strike if the Nigerian Police Force detains its president, Joe Ajaero.
The warning was issued by the NLC’s deputy president, Comrade Adewale Adeyanju, following an emergency National Executive Council meeting on Tuesday.
Unionists gathered at the NLC headquarters in Abuja, showing solidarity and preparing for a strike set to begin at midnight “if anything happens to the president of the congress”.
On Monday, the Nigerian Police Force summoned Ajaero to answer allegations of terrorism financing, treasonable felony, and cybercrime.
A letter from ACP Adamu Muazu, representing the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Intelligence Response Team, instructed Ajaero to report for questioning by 10:00 am today and warned of an arrest warrant if he failed to comply.
