NAF Dismantles 13 Illegal Refineries in Niger Delta

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has achieved a significant breakthrough in its efforts against oil theft and illegal refining in the Niger Delta region by dismantling 13 illegal refining sites and destroying multiple associated facilities.

This action is part of the ongoing Operation Delta Safe.

From June 18 to 22, 2024, the NAF executed a series of targeted airstrikes across Rivers, Bayelsa, and Imo states.

These operations focused on illegal refining sites near the Imo River, resulting in the destruction of seven overhead tanks and numerous gallons of illegally refined products.

The raids also led to the dismantling of seven Cotonou boats and five J-5 buses, which were reportedly used for siphoning crude oil.

NAF’s Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Vice Marshal Edward Gabkwet, credited the success to improved intelligence and better coordination between air and ground forces.

He affirmed that the airstrikes will persist until the activities of oil thieves are substantially curtailed.

The NAF remains dedicated to safeguarding the nation’s oil resources by maintaining pressure on economic saboteurs.
