16 Dead, Nearly 4,000 Homes Destroyed In Jigawa Flood

Jigawa State has been struck by severe flooding, resulting in the tragic loss of 16 lives and the destruction of 3,936 homes.

The extensive flood, which submerged 2,744 hectares of farmland, has impacted 10 local government areas in the state following torrential rains that began at the start of the 2024 rainy season.

The fatalities have been attributed to a combination of building collapses, drowning incidents, and canoe accidents.

While responding to the disaster, the Jigawa State Emergency Management Agency mobilized and provided temporary shelter and essential relief materials, including food and blankets, to those displaced by the floods.

The agency’s immediate efforts aim to address the urgent needs of affected residents, while longer-term recovery and rebuilding plans are expected to follow.
