I Have Zero Tolerance For Corruption -Nigeria’s New Chief Justice

Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun has been confirmed as Nigeria’s new Chief Justice, vowing a strict stance against corruption during her tenure.

Following her confirmation by the Senate, which came at the request of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Justice Kekere-Ekun emphasized that all pre-election matters will now terminate at the Court of Appeal.

Having served in an acting capacity since August, after the retirement of Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, Kekere-Ekun arrived at the Senate chamber accompanied by other justices for a two-hour screening session.

Senators questioned her on judicial reforms, and she assured the chamber of her commitment to leveraging technology for faster justice and maintaining judicial independence from external influences.

Justice Kekere-Ekun is now the second female to hold the position in Nigeria’s history, marking a significant moment as she takes on the role of the 23rd substantive Chief Justice.
