Over 30 people, mostly women and children were killed last night by assailants in Kwahaslalek, Kinat and Mairana communities in Mangu local government area of Plateau State.

This occurred less than 12 hours after Governor Caleb Mutfwang had imposed a curfew on the local government.

According to Joseph Gwankat, who is the President of the Maghavul Development Association, the attack occurred on Tuesday night while residents gathered at a compound to observe the curfew imposed by the governor on the local government.

Police in the state have confirmed Tuesday night’s attack on Kwahaslalek community as well as the burning of the worship centers and market.

DSP Alfred Alabo stated that the police were yet to ascertain the number of casualties as well as the levels of destruction as investigations are still ongoing while also assuring the people of the state of their safety. Adding that normalcy was returning to the area, thanks to the deployment of security personnel and surveillance helicopter.

The 24 hour curfew however, still remains in force at the Local Government Area.
